Solis Saves It

SAN MARCOS - The Cougars recorded their first tie of the season in a 3-3 draw against Cal State San Marcos this afternoon. Key players Mario Shutereiqui and Luis Solis found the back of the net to match San Marcos' offense.

San Marcos opened scoring in the 23rd minute with Oli Barrossa's goal, assisted by Blake Haseyama. APU had several key attempts on goal -- shots from Leke Ademola (right) and Luis Solis (left), along with chances by Hamza Adam and Orlando Valencia-Jimene, but entered the second period scoreless.

In the second half, Shuteriqui scored on a penalty kick in the 50th minute. San Marcos responded with a 3-man goal led by Efren Nunez Dominguez and assisted by Matthew Ibarra and Stefano Brunetto.

In the 77th minute, Solis converted a penalty after a barrage of shots from Osmin Carranza and Joshua Lugo. San Marcos responded ten minutes later with a goal by Haseyama. Solis tied the game in the 89th minute as the clock ran out. The match ended 3-3.

Inside The Numbers:
APU outshot San Marcos 19-9. Alexis Rodriguez went the full 90 in goal, recording two saves. Solis led the team with three shots on goal, scoring twice. Since their first match up in 2007, APU has tallied seven wins, one loss, and now one tie against San Marcos.
