CLAREMONT, Calif. – Azusa Pacific dropped 6-14 to Marist on Wednesday at Haldeman Pool in a non-conference matchup. Laia Marsinach Ortega and Alyssa Perez led the Cougars with two goals each.
How it Happened: Marist jumped out to an early lead, scoring four goals in the first quarter while holding Azusa Pacific to just two. Audrey Dexter put the Cougars on the board first, scoring off an assist from Marsinach Ortega. However, Marist responded with four unanswered goals to close the period.
The second quarter saw a more balanced effort, as the Red Foxes only outscored the Cougars 3-2. Maritza Ochoa and Perez found the back of the net to keep Azusa Pacific within reach at halftime, trailing 7-4.
Marist took control in the third quarter, adding three more goals while Azusa Pacific managed just one, courtesy of Laia Marsinach Ortega. The Red Foxes continued their dominance in the final frame, outscoring the Cougars 4-1, with Perez tallying the lone goal for Azusa Pacific.
