CLAREMONT, Calif. - Azusa Pacific fell 7-11 to Pomona-Pitzer in a non-conference battle on Wednesday at the Haldeman Pool. Nelson led the Cougars with two goals, both scored in the third quarter.
How it Happened: The Sagehens managed to get a goal on the board early in the first quarter, converting a five-yard penalty, but neither team would score in the remaining seven minutes. The Cougars evened the score in the opening 35 seconds of the second quarter, as
Laia Marsinach Ortega capitalized on a penalty. Pomona-Pitzer answered with a three-goal scoring run and finished the half up 5-2.
The Cougars responded in the third quarter, scoring five goals and holding the Sagehens to two.
Maritza Ochoa opened the floodgates, converting on a power play. Nelson followed with two back-to-back goals.
Audrey Dexter scored her tenth goal of the season and goalkeeper
Alex Airitam scored at the buzzer to tie the game 7-7 entering the final eight minutes.
Azusa Pacific could not hold off Pomona in the final quarter, as the Sagehens scored four and held the Cougars to none.

Emily Engle, and Ochoa all tallied one assist. Nine Cougars caused a total of 14 Sagehen turnovers, with Marsinach Ortega forcing three. With the defeat, each team has nine victories and nine losses over 18 matchups all-time.
