Midweek Madness

Azusa Pacific Women’s Volleyball Falls 0–3 to Concordia Irvine in PacWest Matchup

AZUSA, Calif. — Azusa Pacific put together a gritty performance against Concordia Irvine but ultimately fell in straight sets (20–25, 20–25, 21–25) on Wednesday night inside the Felix Event Center. The Cougars (8–16, 3–8 PacWest) battled through three competitive frames but couldn't sustain momentum against the Golden Eagles.

The opening set saw both sides trade points early, with Flora Sebestyen and Sarah Wilson connecting on several early kills to keep the Cougars within one at 10–12.  However, Concordia closed out the first set 25–20 behind a .419 hitting percentage.

The second frame followed a similar rhythm, as Mia Medrano and Brooklyn Kostoff anchored APU's back row through long rallies. Sebestyen remained consistent on the left side with five kills in the set, while Jackie Winfield added three kills of her own. Despite its intensity, the Golden Eagles' front line capitalized late to take another 25–20 win.

In the third, APU showed its strongest push, fueled by Winfield and Sebestyen, who each notched multiple kills during a 6–1 Cougar run to close the gap to 19–21. Yet, CUI again closed efficiently, scoring the final three points to seal the match 25–21.

Looking Ahead

APU will honor seniors Katelyn Sonnier, Makayla Chiechi, and Amanda Albertini on Saturday afternoon against Dominican in their regular-season finale.
