AZUSA, Calif. – The #5 Cougar acrobatics & tumbling team had a rough go of things upon their return home, falling to the third-ranked Quinnipiac Bobcats by a final of 275.595-263.945 Wednesday evening inside the Felix Event Center.
How It Happened: Quinnipiac had the edge throughout the evening, winning 18 of the 20 heats. The Cougars were not without their highlights however, scoring 9.7 or higher on five different heats throughout the night, including two of the four compulsory heats. But the Bobcats, one of the other five original NCATA programs, were regularly a tenth or two better on most events, even putting up a perfect 10.0 on the open pyramid heat, which gave the visitors a lead of nearly four points at halftime ,96.7-92.85.
The Cougars' best performances of the evening came in the individual tumbling passes, with freshman
Kourtny Nolan coming through with a 9.800 on the 6-element tumbling pass, which tied the score that the Bobcats received in the heat, while
Sarah Lang also recorded a 9.800 in the open tumbling pass. The Cougars nevertheless found themselves trailing by six points heading into the team event, and their score of 87.67 in the team event was not enough to close the gap.
Up Next: Azusa Pacific (3-2) will close out the regular season on April 9th when they host Oregon in the Felix Event Center. Meet time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., and at that meet the Cougars will recognize their nine seniors.
