MONTECITO, Calif. – Azusa Pacific fought hard but ultimately fell to Westmont 72-57 on Saturday night at Murchison Gymnasium. Despite a strong first half, the Cougars were unable to hold on as they dropped to 4-6 on the season.
How it Happened: The Cougars started out strong, building a 32-23 lead in the first half led by
Ethan Speaker. Speaker posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, dominating the paint early.
Michael Saba provided a spark off the bench, tallying 13 points in just 18 minutes on the court.
However, the second half proved challenging for the Cougars as turnovers and missed opportunities allowed Westmont to establish a lead. Despite a late push, the Cougars couldn't find enough offense to counter the Warriors' momentum.
By the Numbers: Azusa Pacific's 13 turnovers led to 11 points for the Warriors, and the Cougars struggled to finish in the second half, scoring just 25 points after the break. Despite these setbacks, the team battled on the boards, pulling down 33 rebounds, including 9 offensively.
Up Next: The Cougars will look to bounce back on Tuesday, December 17, as they head to Cal State San Bernardino. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
