Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Slow Start

Azusa Pacific men's basketball had a slow start to their Hawai'i road trip, dropping the opening game 66-58 to Hawai'i Pacific.

HONOLULU, HAWAI'I - Azusa Pacific opened its Hawai'i road trip with a 66-58 loss to Hawai'i Pacific on Tuesday afternoon. Bryce Sloan led the Cougars offensively with 23 points and Ken West joined him in double digit scoring with 10.

How it Happened: The Cougars fell behind early, trailing 10-24 with five minutes left in the first half. Two free throws from Michael Saba cut the deficit to 12, before a three-pointer from Sloan made it 26-15. Sloan came through with the final points of the half for Azusa Pacific, going 2-for-2 at the charity stripe and knocking one down from beyond-the-arc, as the Cougars trailed Hawai'i Pacific 34-20 heading into half time.

With 16 minutes left in the second half, the Cougars found themselves down 16, but the offense started to come alive as Sloan came up with a driving layup and good jumper to cut the deficit to 12.

Trailing by just eight points with four minutes left in the game, the Cougars began to claw their way back as West knocked down one from beyond-the-arc and George Reidy secured two free throws to make it a one point game. However, the Sharks ended up pulling away on the offensive end, securing 14 points in the final three minutes to shut down Azusa Pacific's potential come back and earn the 66-58 victory.

By the Numbers: Hawai'i Pacific shot 47.3% (26-for-55) from the field, while the Cougars shot just 30.4% (21-for-69). Despite having just six turnovers in the game, Azusa Pacific couldn't stop the Sharks offense as Hawai'i Pacific held the lead for the entirety of the game as the Cougars were only able to tie the game once. Sloan collected 23 points with six rebounds, steals and assists.

Up Next: The Cougars will continue their Hawai'i road trip on Thursday at Chaminade. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (HST) | 9:30 p.m. (PST). You can live stream the game HERE.
