SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Azusa Pacific fell on the road to Point Loma on Saturday morning, as the Cougars dropped their PacWest opener by a 2-0 score. The Cougars are now 1-5-2 overall.
The first goal of the game came in the 23rd minute, as Point Loma's Juan Salazar converted on a penalty kick opportunity to put the hosts in front. Five minutes later, the Sea Lions added their second and final goal, as Austin Lavell served up a ball into the box on a free kick, and Milo Libby was there to head the ball into the net.
Over the 90 minutes, Point Loma took a total of 12 shots, with five on frame, while the Cougars had 10 shots, twice putting the ball on target. Both of the Cougars' shots on goal came in the first half, while Point Loma had four quality chances in the first 45 minutes, and Cougar goalkeeper
Leo Moreno saved the lone second half shot on frame for the Sea Lions in the 47th minute of action.Â
The Sea Lions posted an advantage in possession, maintaining control of the ball for 59% of the action. The two sides were even in corner opportunities, with three each. Azusa Pacific was booked four times, with three yellows and a red card in the 32nd minute.Â
