Box Score SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Azusa Pacific fell 2-1 to Cal State San Bernardino in their final non-conference game of the season on Wednesday afternoon. Bethany Tee came up with her team-leading fourth goal of the season, while Avery Guiel also collected two shots on goal.Â
How it Happened: In the first six minutes of the game, Cal State San Bernardino pressured on their final third and was able to collect a shot, but Cougars goalkeeper Maddie Williams came up with a good save.Â
In the 13th minute, it was Aubrey Dunaway who found Azusa Pacific's first shot on goal of the game off a corner kick, but the Coyote goalkeeper came up with a diving save to keep the game tied at 0-0. The Cougars continued to maintain possession and midway through the half, a shot from Rilee Bradbury at the top of the box banged off the crossbar followed by another shot from Katie Prado that was blocked by a Coyote defender to keep the Cougars just inches away from breaking the score open.
Guiel found two more shots in the half, but the Cal State San Bernardino goalkeeper continued to halt any attacks that Azusa Pacific could find. Both teams headed into the half scoreless.
In the 50th minute, the Cougars got a corner kick opportunity and Tee sent a perfect cross into the box where the Coyote goalkeeper attempted to stop it, but it bounced into the net to give Azusa Pacific a 1-0 lead.Â
The Coyotes found the equalizer with about 14 minutes to go to tie the game at 1-1. The Coyotes continued to challenge the Cougars defense and found the go ahead goal with four minutes left to give themselves a 2-1 advantage, which was the final after 90 minutes of play.
By the Numbers: The loss moves the all-time record between both teams to 8-6 in favor of the Cougars and 4-4 when playing in San Bernardino. Azusa Pacific led in shots on goal with five compared to the Coyotes three. Through eight games this season, the Cougars have recorded a 54 SOG% and have held their opponents to 41%.
