There for the Taking

Azusa Pacific will have the chance to win its third-consecutive PacWest title tomorrow.

SURPRISE, Ariz. - For the third-consecutive season, it will be Azusa Pacific and Hawai'i Pacific in the PacWest Championship match, as the Cougars beat Concordia 4-0 on Friday in the semifinals. Not only will it be the third installment of the two teams in the title match, but Azusa Pacific is seeking to win its third-straight championship, as the Cougars won in 2022 and 2021 by the same score of 4-3.

Miruna Tudor and Vini Bautista set the tone for the Cougars in doubles, as the pair was absolutely dominant and won the No. 2 match by a 6-0 score over Jessica Bear and Tiffany Carrillo. The pair is undefeated in eight matches together, and they have won 6-0 twice.

Just as they did in the quarterfinal match yesterday, April Wong and Shannele Lopez delivered the doubles-clinching win for the Cougars, as they won a hard-fought No. 3 match with Alicia Da Re and Alyssa Zayat 7-5. Wong and Lopez are now unbeaten in their last three matches.

Bautista captured the first singles win of the match at No. 4, where she beat Zayat in straight sets (6-2, 6-0). In four of Bautista's last five singles wins, she has won at least one set by a 6-0 score, and all five of those wins occurred in straight-sets.

Over in the No. 1 matchup, Eleonora Liga did what she has done all season, winning in straight-sets (6-2, 6-2). Liga, ranked #11 nationally, is now 22-1 this year, and today marked her 20th straight-set victory of the campaign.

Tudor was the match-clincher for the Cougars at No. 5, where she won the first set 6-1 over Bear, and then sealed the return trip to the title match with a 6-2 second set win. Tudor is unbeaten since her first match of the season (18-1), and she has won 14 times in straight-sets.
