SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Cougars dropped the PacWest series agaisnt Point Loma, falling to the Sea Lions during Saturday's action. Point Loma took game one by a final score of 10-5 and blanked the Cougars in game two by a final of 7-0. Cade Marshman led the Cougars on the day with two hits and multiple Cougars drove in runs in game one.Â
Game 1: Point Loma 10, Azusa Pacific 5
Will Medina produced the first run for the Cougars in the top half of third hitting a solo shot, his first of the year. The Sea Lions capitalized on a huge inning in the fourth scoring seven runs as that swung the momentum open for Point Loma to put this game away early. With multiple base hits and extra base hits, the Sea Lions found themselves in a commanding 7-1 lead after four innings of play. Point Loma would tack on another run in the bottom of the fifth.
The Cougars tacked on four runs in the top of the sixth with RBI singles from Will Stroud and Omar Lopez. Later in the inning, Carson Collett and David Hays produced their own RBI singles to cut the deficit to 8-5.Â
Point Loma added two insurance runs in the eigth inning on a RBI double and a RBI single to extend the lead 10-5. The Sea Lions relief pitching held the Cougars scoreless over the last 3.1 innings to take game one by a final 10-5.Â
Game 2: Point Loma 7, Azusa Pacific 0
The Cougars were shutout in game two, just the second shutout for Azusa Pacific dating back to Feburary 23, 2019. The Cougars had one lone hit from Spencer Rasmussen in the top of 7th to break up the no-hitterÂ
The Sea Lions had a pair of home runs in the first and the third inning that gave an early 5-0 lead. Point Loma would tack on two extra runs in the fourth on a throwing error and a RBI single to extend the lead 7-0, which was the game two final.Â
Up Next: Azusa Pacific (20-14, 13-7 in PacWest play) travels to Irvine, Calif. to square off against Concordia in a four game series starting Friday, April 7th. The teams will play two games on Friday in Irvine followed by two games on Saturday at the Cougar Baseball Complex.
