No. 14 Cougars Silence No. 20 Midwestern State

Azusa Pacific earned a 4-0 win on Monday.

AZUSA, Calif. – No. 14 Azusa Pacific beat visiting No. 20 Midwestern State by a 4-0 score on Monday afternoon. The Cougars are 10-4 this season, and they have shut out six opponents so far.

At No. 1 doubles, Eleonora Liga and Madison Kane, ranked as the nation's #4 duo, was matched up with Midwestern State's Sydney Williams and Amelia Lawson, who are ranked #24 nationally. Liga and Kane would capture the 6-2 win to improve their season record to 11-2. Of the pair's 11 wins, they have only allowed opponents to win more than two games twice.

Midwestern State drew even in doubles with a 6-2 win at No. 3, but Miruna Tudor and Kylie Hull would shut the door in doubles for the Cougars, as they won 6-4 at No. 2 to put Azusa Pacific up 1-0 overall. Tudor and Hull are undefeated in three matches together.

Madison Kane would quickly get the Cougars ahead 2-0 overall, and she put together a dominant 6-1, 6-2 performance to win at No. 2. Kane has now won six matches in straight sets this season.

Vini Bautista would put the Cougars up 3-0 at No. 4, where she won in straight sets (6-4, 6-2). Of Bautista's six victories this season, four have occurred in straight-set fashion.

Eleonora Liga, the two-time defending PacWest Player of the Week and the nation's #4 singles player, would deliver the match-clinching point for the Cougars in the No. 1 matchup. Liga took both sets by a 6-4 score, and she has now extended her unbeaten match streak to 11. Liga is 12-1 this season, and she has won 11 matches in straight sets.
