Tuesday Trial

Azusa Pacific softball dropped both games to Colorado Christian at home on Tuesday evening.

AZUSA, Calif - Azusa Pacific came up short against Colorado Christian on Tuesday evening after welcoming them to the Cougar Softball Complex. The first game ended in a 7-0 final, followed by a 6-1 score in the second game all in favor of the visiting Colorado Christian Cougars.

GAME ONE: Colorado Christian 8, Azusa Pacific 0

There was not much action through the first four innings of play as pitching and defense was solid on both sides of the diamond. Colorado Christian broke the deadlock in the bottom of the 5th after a two-run home run, and they were able to get two more across the board to take a 4-0 advantage over Azusa Pacific heading into the bottom half of the 5th.

The home Cougars were able to get a runner on third, via Izzy Rivera reaching on a drop third strike, Aleah Delgado laying down a sacrifice bunt, and Kinsey Erickson moving her over by way of an infield single, but Azusa Pacific was not able to get a runner across after an inning-ending pop up.

Colorado Christian tacked on four more runs in the 6th and 7th inning, but the home Cougars were not able to respond and ultimately fell 8-0 in game one.

GAME TWO: Colorado Christian 6, Azusa Pacific 1

Colorado Christian got off to 3-0 start in game two due to a bases clearing double in the first inning. The home Cougars had a promising start in the second inning when Caitlin DeCanio smoked a leadoff triple to right field, but a double play by Colorado Christian put Azusa Pacific's chances of scoring away.

One run came across for Colorado Christian in the 5th, and two more came across by way of a home run for the visiting Cougars in their top half of the 6th.

Azusa Pacific was able to get one run across via a sacrifice fly from Delgado that scored DeCanio in the bottom half of the 7th, but that was all the scoring that the home Cougars had in game two and fell by a final score of 6-1.

By the Numbers: Azusa Pacific was only able to string together eight hits on the day compared to Colorado Christian's 18 over both games. Erickson went 3-for-6 at the plate, including nine putouts in center field. DeCanio also had a hit in each game, going 2-for-5 at the dish.

Up Next: Azusa Pacific will travel to Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, February 10th to face the Coyotes in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. If you cannot attend the games, you can watch them HERE.
