Lucky Number Seven

Azusa Pacific women's soccer put seven goals in the back of the net en route to a shutout victory over Academy of Art on Monday night.

AZUSA, Calif. - Azusa Pacific earned a 7-0 victory over Academy of Art at the Cougar Soccer Complex on Monday evening, tying the program's record for the most goals scored since joining Division II and it was also the largest margin of victory under head coach Brooke Lincoln's leadership.

Aubrey Dunaway earned her second brace of the season, while Jaci Maze, Katie Prado, Katie O'Brien, Angela Cipriano and Rilee Bradbury each had a goal. The Cougars also collected two assists on the night from Avery Guiel and Natalia Bowles, and in goal, Maddie Williams and Makenzie Jerome combined for the clean sheet tonight with Jerome earning the first save of her Cougar career.

"I'm proud of the girls focus and composure tonight. It's also great to see a lot of girls get on the scoresheet." said head coach Brooke Lincoln. "We created so many chances and so many looks, so to see the ball go in the back of the net seven times during the run of play tonight was a really good thing."

How it Happened: The Cougars got ahead early by way of Dunaway in the 17th minute. Dunaway got the ball at the top of the box and her shot found the top left corner of the net to give Azusa Pacific an early 1-0 lead. With just four minutes left in the half, a high cross into the box from Bowles found the diving Maze who collected a header goal to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead going into the final 45 minutes.

Just 45 seconds in to the second half, the Cougars scored their third goal of the game. A low cross in the box by Guiel found Dunaway on the back post, who placed it perfectly in the net to collect her second goal of the night. Azusa Pacific's press down field did not stop there. In the 51st minute, Prado's strong shot at the top of the box went straight through the Urban Knight's goalkeepers hands to give the Cougars more insurance at 4-0.

It was O'Brien's turn in the 67th minute when her laser of a shot from about 40 yards out found space over the diving Urban Knight's goalkeeper to give Azusa Pacific a commanding 5-0 lead.

In the final 10 minutes, Cipriano found the back of the net followed by Bradbury's goal when she took advantage of a ball that was deflected off the post from Tee to give the Cougars a 7-0 lead, which was the final on the pitch tonight.

By the Numbers: The Cougars hold a 9-1-1 record over Academy of Art and through the last three meetings, Azusa Pacific has outscored the Urban Knights 19-0. The Cougars had a season-high 29 shots with 16 of those on frame, and Lincoln utilized 23 different players in the match tonight. Azusa Pacific now has 20 goals as a team this year, which ranks 3rd in the PacWest, averaging 1.8 goals a game. Azusa Pacific's back line also limited Academy of Art to just two shots on goal through the entirety of the match.
