SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - Azusa Pacific has now won four consecutive matches, defeating Dominican in straight sets (25-19, 25-18, 25-12) on Thursday evening. The Cougars improve their record to 11-8 overall, and 8-3 in PacWest play.
Three Cougars finished with hitting percentages above .400 on double digit attempts in the match, as
Annaka Jorgenson had 12 kills on 22 attempts (.455),
Kendyl Macaskill recorded seven kills on 11 attempts (.636), and
Jaela Bernard added six kills on 12 attempts (.500).
Kyra Palmbush also had an efficient offensive night, tallying nine kills on 19 attempts for a .368 hitting percentage.
Paige Johnstone had three service aces and a match-high 14 digs. At the net, Bernard had a solo block and two block assists.
How It Happened: Dominican scored the first two points of the match to take a 2-0 set lead, but it would be the Penguins only lead over the entirety of the three sets on the evening. The Cougars held leads as large as seven points in the first set, 11 points in the first set, and 13 points in the third set.
By the Numbers: Azusa Pacific finished with an overall hitting percentage of .292, recording 46 kills over 106 attempts. In the third set, the Cougars had their most efficient segment of the match, tallying 18 kills on 37 attempts for a .378 percentage. On the other side of the net, the Penguins finished at .031, which is the second-worst performance by a Cougar opponent this season. Dominican ended the match with a -0.027 percentage in the third set, recording just four kills over 37 attempts. Over the last seven meetings between the two teams, Azusa Pacific has won all matchups in straight-sets, dating back to the 2019 season. The Cougars are 21-2 all-time against the Penguins.
