Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Cougars Draw a Tie Against Wildcats on the Road

After 90 minutes on the pitch tonight, Azusa Pacific women's soccer drew a 2-2 tie against Chico State.

CHICO, CALIF - A competitive game on the pitch tonight ended in 2-2 tie between Azusa Pacific women's soccer and Chico State. "Chico is a good side and they are really effective in the way that they press." said head coach Brooke Lincoln. "I am really proud of our fight to get ourselves back in it."

How it Happened - Azusa Pacific outshot Chico State 8-6 and drew three corner kicks in the first half, but a shot off the crossbar by Kayla Grisham was as much capitalization that the Cougars saw in the first 45 minutes of play. Despite Azusa Pacific breaking down Chico State's press, the Wildcats found their way past Maddie Williams to take a 1-0 advantage in the 13th minute.

After the start of the second half, Chico State put another ball in the back of the net to double their lead 2-0. Azusa Pacific responded in the 70th minute when Aubrey Dunaway set up a ball for Bethany Tee to put between the posts, cutting Chico State's advantage in half. Six minutes later, a corner kick by Kylie Carwitz was deflected and Nora Oldmark and Dunaway combined for two passes to assist Jaci Maze in scoring her first goal of the season and first in a Cougar uniform to tie the match at 2-2.

The final 15 minutes were filled with action as the Cougars found themselves on their attacking half and in Chico State's box a few times. In the final seven seconds, a free kick was awarded to the Cougars and Tee sent a ball in towards the net, but it was deflected off the Wildcats goalie and out of bounds to end the match.

By the Numbers - Azusa Pacific outshot Chico State 17-10, while also collecting 10 corner kicks, which is the most they've had as a team since their 13 against Academy of Art in the 2019 season. The Cougars held possession 59% of the time over the course of the 90 minute game, while Lincoln utilized 18 different players tonight. Williams also saw her fourth complete game of the season in goal.
