No. 15 Wildcats Beat Cougars In Four

No. 15 Wayne State (Neb.) beat Azusa Pacific by a 3-1 score on Friday afternoon in the Premier Challenge.

DENVER, Colo. - Azusa Pacific dropped to 3-3 on the young season, following a 3-1 loss to No. 15 Wayne State (Neb.) on Friday afternoon at the Premier Challenge.

Kaitlin Craig registered a team-high nine kills, and she had three block assists. Kyra Palmbush turned in eight kills and had a solo block and three block assists defensively. Aubrea Banfield finished with 20 assists and three service aces.

How It Happened: Mid-way through the first set, Wayne State held a slim 14-13 advantage when the Wildcats would blow the set open with an 11-2 run that would ultimately give them a commanding 25-15 first set triumph.

With momentum on its side, Wayne State jumped out to a quick 6-3 set lead in the second. The Cougars would battle back, as a kill by Katarina Radisic sparked an 11-3 run for the Cougars that was capped off by a service ace from Banfield that put Azusa Pacific up 14-12. While the Wildcats would win two straight points to knot the score at 14, the Cougars would take 10 of the next 12 points to grab a 24-16 lead, and Azusa Pacific would ultimately level the match score at 1-1 with a 25-18 second set win.

Wayne State would take the lead back in the third, as the Wildcats led from the outset of the set and maintained a cushion of five or more points for essentially the entirety of the frame, and would secure a 25-18 victory.

The Wildcats would cruise to the match victory in the fourth set, winning 25-10.

By The Numbers: The Cougars finished with 40 kills on 132 attempts with a season-high 21 attack errors, while Wayne State had 52 kills on 131 attempts with 19 attack errors. In the service game, Azusa Pacific committed nine service errors, while the Wildcats had nine service aces.
