OAKLAND, CALIF - Despite a tough battle on the pitch on Thursday afternoon, the visiting Cougars fell 2-1 to Holy Names
. Luis Solis provided the only goal for Azusa Pacific, finding the back of the net in the 16th minute.
How it Happened: Holy Names struck first in the 13th minute to take a 1-0 advantage over the Cougars, but Azusa Pacific quickly responded in the 16th when Solis put away the equalizer which was his second goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1. In the 23rd, a foul by Timo Wurtemberger in the box lead to a penalty kick opportunity for the Hawks, which they capitalized on, taking a 2-1 advantage. The Cougars almost found the equalizer again in the 35th, but a foul called on Azusa Pacific before the shot was taken reverted the goal back. There were two more shots provided by the Cougars in the remaining minutes of the first half, but nothing came from the attack, entering the second 45 trailing by a goal.
In the second half, Azusa Pacific struggled to find their presence on their attacking half, only registering two shots on goal compared to the Hawks four. The Cougars had an opportunity to tie the game once again off a header, but an offsides call by the referee's reverted Azusa Pacific's equalizing goal back once again. The most daring opportunity for the visiting Cougars came in the 83rd minute, when a foul at the top of the box gave
Gregoire Diep the opportunity to tie the game in the final minutes, but the Holy Names goalkeeper came up with a leaping save to keep the game at 2-1. This was all Azusa Pacific could gather after 90 minutes of play and ultimately fell to the Hawks by a final score of 2-1.
