How It Happened: After Fresno Pacific was able to hang on for a hard-fought first set victory, the Cougars responded by taking the second set to even the match at 1-1. In order to draw even in the match, the Cougars had to make a late comeback in the second, as the Sunbirds held a 20-16 advantage. After cutting the deficit down to 20-18, Fresno Pacific scored a point to make it 21-18, however, the Cougars came roaring back, as a kill by Lindsi Hawkins jump started a 5-0 run for the Cougars that put the visitors ahead 23-21. While Fresno Pacific would tie the match at 23-23, a kill by Jaela Bernard put Azusa Pacific back in front at 24-23, and the Cougars would secure the set 25-23.
The momentum would be short-lived for the Cougars, as the Sunbirds responded with a 25-17 third set victory, and the hosts closed the match out with a 25-20 match-deciding fourth set win.
By the Numbers: Azusa Pacific poted its second-lowest team hitting percentage this season, as the Cougars finished at .134, and the Cougars matched their second-fewest total blocks this year with just three.
