Eagles End Streak

Azusa Pacific suffered its first PacWest loss of the season, falling to Concordia by a 3-0 final on Wednesday.

AZUSA, Calif. -- The Azusa Pacific volleyball team saw its eight-match winning streak snapped Wednesday evening at home, falling in straight sets to Concordia (23-25, 17-25, 26-28) inside the Felix Event Center.

How it Happened:  The Cougars had a chance to take an early lead, as a 6-1 run gave the Cougars a 23-20 lead late in the first set.  But the Cougars got in their own way and it cost them dearly, as Concordia would win the final five points of the set, four of them on Azusa Pacific errors.

Azusa Pacific would use an 8-2 run that included three blocks and two Annaka Jorgenson aces to recover from a slow start in the second set, again taking a small lead at 9-6.  The Eagles would pull even and the set would remain close until 17-17.  At that point, Concordia middle blocker Hannah Tostado took over the match, as she had a hand in five separate blocks to help Concordia win the final eight points of the set to take a two-sets-to-none advantage..

In the third set, Concordia's momentum would carry over as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead.  The Cougars would fight back, finally catching the Eagles at 21-21, and would even serve for the set at 24-23.  But Concordia would win the next two points, and after trading four consecutive sideouts, the Eagles would get back-to-back kills to finish off the match.

By the Numbers:  Katarina Radisic was the only Cougar to reach double figures in kills on the evening, finishing the night with 11.  The Cougars were held to just a .120 hitting percentage for the match.  Concordia had 14 blocks on the night, the most the Cougars have given up in a match this season.  Kaitlin Craig had a hand in five blocks of her own for Azusa Pacific, with one solo block and four assists.  Bayley Hennington had a team-high 18 digs, while Jorgenson finished the evening with nine kills and four aces.

Up Next:  The Cougars (9-3, 4-1 PacWest) now embark on their longest road trip of the season, playing the next six games away from home.  The trip starts with a visit to archrival Biola on Friday evening for the next installment of the Cornerstone Cup.  Game time in Chase Gymnasium is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
