Weary Legs Slow Cougars

Azusa Pacific suffered its second loss to Chaminade on the road Wednesday evening.

HONOLULU, Hawai'i - The Cougars suffered their second loss to Chaminade this week, falling in straight sets on Wednesday evening. The match was Azusa Pacific's third match in the last three days, with three more contests remaining over the final four days of it's Hawai'i trip.

Kaitlin Craig and Annaka Jorgenson led Azusa Pacific, each finishing with 10 kills, followed by five kill efforts from Kyra Palmbush, Katarina Radisic, and Delaney Dunham. Maggie Nielsen finished with 21 assists, and Bailey Henington totaled two aces and 13 digs.

How it Happened: The Silverswords were able to jump out to a 3-0 lead in the first set. Azusa Pacific responded, taking six out of the next eight points to go ahead 6-5, but Chaminade was able to pull away with the momentum and win the set with the help of two five-point runs, ending the set via  a score of 25-15.

The second set was more promising for the Cougars as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead quickly with kills from Palmbush, Hills, and Joregenson. Chaminade responded, taking the lead at 16-14 and producing a 6-point run to defeat the Cougars in set two by a score of 25-17.

The third set was a thrilling back and forth battle between the two sides. Azusa Pacific held a 15-11 lead over Chaminade, with five of those points credited to Craig kills. But, Chaminade was able to pull within one at 23-22, and despite the effort from the Cougars, the Silverswords were able to put away set three and the match via a score of 30-28.

By the Numbers: Chaminade was able to finish the match with a team hitting percentage of .236 (45 kills on 127 attempts), and the Cougars struggled to find an offensive rhythm, resulting in a team hitting percentage of .108 (38 kills on 56 attempts). For the third-consecutive match, Azusa Pacific committed 24 attack errors.

Up Next: Tomorrow, Azusa Pacific will play its fourth game of the week, when it visits Hawai'i Pacific for a 7:00 pm local time (9:00 pm Pacific) rematch against the Sharks. On Tuesday night, the Sharks beat the Cougars in five sets. To watch the match, click here.
