IRVINE, Calif. — Azusa Pacific men's soccer saw its 25 unbeaten streak in PacWest conference action come to an end Saturday with a 3-1 loss to Concordia. The Cougars streak saw them win back-to-back PacWest championships in 2018 and 2019 as they haven't been defeated in conference action since a loss to Dixie State in 2017's season finale.
How it Happened: The 10th ranked Cougars outshot the Eagles 9-6 in the first 45 minutes but neither team was able to score. Azusa Pacific came out on the attack in the first 20 minutes as they recorded five shots but none of them were able to test the Concordia goalkeeper.
Cougars' goalkeeper
Brendan Fix recorded his first save of the game in 23rd minute as the Eagles began to apply pressure on the Azusa Pacific defense through the middle portion of the first half.
Freshman
Marco Astorga brought the Cougars within inches of the first goal after his shot in the 41st minute went off the crossbar and stayed out to keep the game scoreless at the break.
Unfortunately for Azusa Pacific, the Eagles broke through with three consecutive goals to start the second half. The first two came within a minute of each other as Concordia scored twice in the 49th minute. The third goal would come in the 61st minute.
The Cougars would get one back in the 89th minute as
Renan Gomes scored his second goal of the season which was set up by
David Kwinn.
