Cougars and Sharks Results in Double OT Draw

Azusa Pacific men's soccer tied with Hawaii Pacific after the match ended at 1-1 Saturday evening.

HONOLULU, Hawaii — Azusa Pacific men's soccer ended its match against Hawaii Pacific with a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes Saturday. The Cougars streak of 23 straight conference wins was snapped with the result, but did remain undefeated in their last 24 conference games.

Both goals were scored in the second half as Victor Ramos' goal in the 77th minuted tied the game and sent it to overtime where the game would eventually end in a 1-1 draw. The goal was the striker's second goal of the season while David Medeiros was credited with another assist, his second on the Hawaii road trip.

How it Happened: Azusa Pacific conceded the first shot of the game to the Sharks but their attempt was blocked. On the other end, the Cougars offense created many chances in the first 45 minutes including a Medeiros shot that required a quality save from the Sharks goalkeeper in the 7th minute.

After a Jonah Peck shot on goal and another from Medeiros, the Cougars forced a pair more saves upping the saves total to four throughout just 18 minutes of action. Despite having five first half shots, the Sharks didn't have a single one on target against the defense and goalkeeper Brendan Fix while the Cougars also maintained majority of the half.

More of the same in the second half as the Cougars peppered the frame with shots but couldn't find the net. Instead, Hawaii Pacific broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the 62nd minute on what was their first shot of the second half, and first shot on goal of the game.

The Cougars responded to tie it up just 14 minutes later in the half on a Ramos shot that found the bottom left corner for his second goal of the season and third of his collegiate career.

Azusa Pacific outshot the Sharks 10-1 in the second half while controlling majority of the possession throughout the second 45 minutes. Seven of the 12 corner kicks the Cougars forced, came in the second half alone.

Hawaii Pacific outshot Azusa Pacific 5-4 throughout the two overtime periods, but neither team was able to score as the Cougars settled for their second tie of the season.

Up Next: The Cougars continue PacWest action with a match-up against Chaminade this coming Monday, October 4th. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m (Hawaii Standard Time) or 3:30 p.m. (Pacific Time). You can watch the match here, or follow along with live stats here.
