Four Azusa Pacific student-athletes were named All-Americans by The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), following their qualification and performance at the 2020 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships in Geneva, Ohio.
Junior Amy Crayne, freshman Hannah Frey, sophomore Melia Stout and junior McKenna Webster were honored, as the CSCAA announced adjusted criteria for its All-American selection process in the wake of the cancellation of the remaining three days of competition at the Championships. The criteria for the events that were completed prior to the cancellation remained the same, as the top eight finalists are named to the first team while the consolation finalists were named Honorable Mention. However, for events that were not completed, individual and relay qualifiers selected for the championships were named All-American.
Crayne, Stout and Webster all qualified for both the one-meter and three-meter dive, and the 3M event was held on day one which allowed for full completion of the event. Crayne finished sixth overall with a score of 422.95 in the event, which gave her All-American status and distinction as the first ever diver in Azusa Pacific history to reach the podium at Nationals. Stout and Webster were given honorable mention recognition, as Stout placed 13th (382.75) and Webster was 14th (380.30). Under the unique criteria for the 2020 season, all three divers were named All-Americans in the one-meter event, as it was scheduled to take place on Friday, March 14, but the Championships were canceled prior to that. For Webster, it was the second season in which she earned All-American recognition, as she was an All-American Honorable Mention in 2018 in both the 1M and 3M.
Frey was named All-American honorable mention in the 1000 freestyle, placing 15th overall with a time of 10:08.89. Frey was also scheduled to compete in the 1650 free and the 500 free, but neither event occurred prior to the cancellation.
"Despite the cancellation of the NCAA Championships, Coach Tim Kyle (Azusa Pacific head coach) did a remarkable job this season," explained Greg Earhart, Executive Director of the CSCAA, "These four student-athletes had the rug pulled out from them this season, so we are excited to recognize them."
Since 2016, Azusa Pacific has had 10 student-athletes recognized as All-American or All-American honorable mention by the CSCAA.
