Volleyball Splits Day Two of the Cougar Classic

SAN MARCOS, Calif.-- Azusa Pacific split its two matches on the second day of the Cougar Classic, as the Cougars finished the weekend with a 3-1 record to start the season.

Senior middle blocker Julianne Miller finished the weekend with 10 total blocks, as she moved into third all-time in the PacWest in blocks with 360 in her career. The PacWest career record is 394.

All-Tournament Team: Three Cougars were named to the All-Tournament team, as Miller received the recognition along with freshman Annaka Jorgenson and senior Bailey Henington.

Game 1: Azusa Pacific 0, Cal State San Marcos 3 (25-22, 25-23, 25-17)

In the first set, the Cougars needed a late surge to pick up an early lead from Cal State San Marcos. The opposing Cougars led 21-15 when Aliyah Morrison put down a kill (assisted by junior Mina Andjelkovic) to send Azusa Pacific on a five-point run, closing the score 21-20. Cal Sate San Marcos then finished off the set with a kill from Micah Hebert to secure the match lead.

The second set was a mirror image of the first as Azusa Pacific battled the entire competition down to the wire but couldn't secure the victory, ending in a hard fought 25-23 loss. A big Cal State San Marcos run (22-14) in the middle of the third set gave the opposing Cougars a solid lead and an eventual 25-17 win to close out the match.

Miller led Azusa Pacific with nine kills to go along with four total blocks in the game. Also leading for Azusa Pacific was senior Sara Wagenveld with 9 kills and two blocks while Jorgenson added 6 kills for the Cougars.

Game 2: Azusa Pacific 3, Saint Martin's 0 (25-7, 25-9, 25-18)
