Cougars Blanked At Cal State Fullerton

FULLERTON, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific's three-match win streak was snapped by a 7-0 defeat at Cal State Fullerton (NCAA Division I) Wednesday afternoon.

All six singles matches were decided in straight sets, and Cal State Fullerton swept all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point, as well. It was the fifth straight season the teams have competed and sixth meeting all-time, with the Titans winning five straight matchups.

With the defeat, the Cougars fell to 3-2 on the season, while Cal State Fullerton improved to 4-2.

Doubles: All three doubles matches were closely contested, with the No. 1 doubles tandem of Kara Hinton and Jacky Wagner falling by a 6-3 score. The second and third doubles were even closer, with both decided by a score of 6-4.

Singles: All six singles matches were decided in straight sets, although two Cougars took one of their sets to a set tiebreaker. At No. 1 singles, Petra Ivankovic dropped the opening set, 6-3, before pushing the second set to tiebreaker against Karla Portalatin, who claimed the final set, 7-6, with a 7-2 tiebreaker win. That matchup closed out the impressive performance from the Titans, who also got a tiebreaker win in the opening set at No. 3 singles, where Genevieve Zeidan edged Anna Savchenko in the opening set of a 7-6, 6-0 win.

What's Next: Azusa Pacific is back in action in less than 24 hours, hosting NCAA Division II West Region rival Cal State L.A. on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 2:00 p.m.
