Pranger Throws Block Party

Junior Laura Pranger set the school record for blocked shots in a game during Azusa Pacific's 72-45 win over Chaminade

AZUSA, Calif. – History was made as Azusa Pacific defeated visiting Chaminade by a final of 72-45. The previous record of seven blocks in a game was shared by three different Cougars; Andrea Macciola (1996-97), Jessica Herman (1998) and Lindsey West (2006). Not only did Pranger break the record, but she did it before the halftime break. Pranger tied the record with 4:04 left in the second quarter, and less than 30 seconds later, she claimed sole possession of first place in the history books, as she tallied her eighth block with 3:37 left in the quarter. As a team, Azusa Pacific had 16 blocks in the contest.

From beyond the arc, the Cougars knocked down seven of their attempts, while the Silverswords made three. While the final score was lopsided, both teams were able to turn one another over throughout the game. Azusa Pacific forced Chaminade into 25 turnovers. And the Cougars finished with 27 points off of those turnovers. The Cougars finished with 26 turnovers committed, and the Silverswords were able take advantage of the miscues for 26 points.

Turning Point: Through the first two quarters of play, Azusa Pacific dominated the action and put the game out of hand early. Through the first quarter and early into the second, Chaminade was able to keep the Azusa Pacific lead at a manageable margin. With 8:15 left in the second quarter, Azusa Pacific held a single digit lead of 25-18. The Cougars then went on a 15-1 run over the next seven minutes, which put them in control for the rest of the game.
