Depth-a-Plenty

Azusa Pacific defeated Chaminade by a 93-47 final on Wednesday night in Honolulu, as five Cougars scored in double figures.

HONOLULU, Hawai'i – Azusa Pacific wasted no time taking control of the game, as the Cougars maintained the momentum throughout and defeated host Chaminade 93-47 on Wednesday night.

From the outset, Azusa Pacific dominated on both ends of the floor. The Cougars jumped out to a 28-9 lead after the first quarter, and would extend their lead to 51-23 at halftime. The second half was much of the same, as the Cougars pushed the advantage up 74-37 at the end of the third, and used a 19-10 advantage in the fourth and final period to close out the evening with the 46 point victory.

"We did not have any let up at any point tonight," said head coach T.J. Hardeman, "we have so many good players that are chomping at the bit to get in the game, and so we do not have many moments where our team gets complacent."

Coach Hardeman's point was echoed in the final box score, as five players scored in double digits, six players grabbed five or more rebounds, and 10 Cougars scored in the game. Laura Pranger and Rachel Bozlee led the way with 16 points each, as Pranger added seven rebounds and three blocks, while Bozlee hit four three-pointers and tallied four rebounds. Also scoring in double digits were Molly Whitmore, who scored 14 points on 7-for-9 shooting, Zoe March with 12 points, and Alex Lowden, who scored 10 points and finished with seven rebounds, two steals, and two assists.

"Alex (Lowden) has been great for us to start the year, she is constantly in the right spots and making the winning plays that every great team needs," said Coach Hardeman.
Savanna Hanson led the Cougars in rebounding, as she finished with 11 boards in just 17 minutes of action. "Savanna was relentless on the glass tonight," said Coach Hardeman, "she found a way in which she could make an impact on the game and committed to it throughout."

The blowout victory was another opportunity in which Azusa Pacific's depth was put on display, and it was another game in which the Cougars showed a trust and confidence in one another. "We assisted on 20 of our 35 made field goals tonight," said Coach Hardeman, "often times teams that are filled with talent from top to bottom can struggle to play together and put one another in the right position. We have shown a tremendous amount of awareness and willingness to get each other involved so far this season."
Daylee Hanson led the Cougars with six assists in the game, and six other Cougars had at least one assist on the night.

The Cougars are now 7-0 to start the season, and the defending PacWest champions are 2-0 in conference play. Azusa Pacific wraps up the three game trip in Hawai'i at Hawai'i Pacific on Friday, December 6th at 4:30 pm (HST). The game will start at 6:30 pm on the West Coast.
