Fresno, Calif.-- For its third straight sweep, the Azusa Pacific women's volleyball team rolled to a three-set victory over Fresno Pacific on Wednesday evening, winning 25-18, 25-17, 25-17. With their thirteenth conference win, the Cougars improve to 19-4 overall and 13-2 in PacWest play.
The Cougars dominated offensively after finishing with a .374 hitting percentage compared to the Sunbird's .069 hitting percentage.
Katarina Radisic posted a match-high 14 kills and six digs to help lead the Cougars offensively.
Sara Wagenveld and
Annaka Jorgenson recorded 10 kills apiece, while Jorgenson added 15 digs. Wagenveld led all blockers with two kills, including one solo stuff.
Bailey Henington reached double-digits in digs by collecting 11 for the Cougars, while
Maggie Nielsen and
Mina Andjelkovic tallied 24 assists each.
How It Happened:
The Cougars wasted no time in the opening frame, claiming the first point of the night with a kill from Miller to eventually jump out to a 3-0 lead. Following a brief Fresno Pacific run midway through the set, in which the Sunbirds cut the deficit to 18-15, the Cougars never lost two consecutive points for the remainder of the set. With the score at 23-17, Wagenveld strung together back-to-back kills to finish off the first frame with a 25-18 victory.
Early in the second set, with an 9-6 lead, Radisic recorded a kill which sparked Azusa Pacific to a 5-1 run for a 14-7 lead. Mirroring the first set, the Cougars never dropped two consecutive points for the remainder of the frame to cruise their way to a 25-17 second-set win.
Following an opening third-set kill by Amy Hinnant, Radisic collected two back-to-back kills for the Cougars to help extend the score 3-0. The Cougars never trailed in the final frame and grew a 6-2 lead into a 17-10 advantage midway though the set. Fresno Pacific rallied back and narrowed down the Cougars seven-point lead to a four-point margin, but Azusa Pacific responded with another 5-1 run to seal its 25-17 conference victory.

The Cougars will continue PacWest play on Friday, November 8th, back at home in the Felix Event Center against Academy of Art followed with a quick turnaround match at Biola on Saturday, November 9 to wrap up the Cornerstone Cup Rivalry Series.
