AZUSA, Calif. – Biola entered Tuesday night's match with an 11-game unbeaten streak, but 90 minutes later the streak was nowhere to be found, as Azusa Pacific took the 2-1 victory and 10 points in the Cornerstone Cup.
Â
Through the first 45 minutes, neither side had many great opportunities. Biola took four shots in the first half, while the Cougars took three shots and each side had one corner. Biola struck first in the match just before halftime, as Katelyn Penner found the back of the net in the 43
rd minute with an unassisted goal.
Â
The Eagles would hold the lead briefly into the second half, as senior
Emmy Koflanovich equaled the score with a goal in the 53
rd minute. Koflanovich received a through ball from
Randi Macadangdang, made a move to work past her defender, and sent a shot with her right foot past the keeper. Macadangdang was credited with the assist on the play.

For the next 30 or so minutes, there was a somewhat frantic pace to the match, as each side had a few promising opportunities but were unable to finish it off with a goal. However, the Cougars broke through in the 83
rd minute, as
Maddy Morrison scored what turned out to be the game winning goal. Koflanovich found herself in the middle of the offensive attack once again, as she assisted Morrison on the game-winnner.
Â
For Azusa Pacific, the victory is a significant win for the program. "I'm fired up for our girls, this was a game we have been waiting for since last year," said head coach
Brooke Lincoln, "we were well prepared for this match and the girls carried it over into the game. These are the types of defining games that can set the course for the entire program moving forward, what a great night it was."
Â
Morrison, who is new to Azusa Pacific and the rivalry this season, could feel the elevated energy of the match. "I learned tonight how huge this rivalry really is," Morrison said, "the celebration after my goal was unlike anything I have experienced before." While Morrison and Lincoln will be back next year for another round of the Cornerstone Cup, the win was a great send-off for four seniors who played their final game at the Cougar Soccer Complex.
Â
Koflanovich,
Lea Graham,
Kelsey Bushman and
Denise Monterroso were sent off the pitch in Azusa for the final time with a victory, a memory they will cherish. "It was amazing to be out here with our teammates tonight and get this win," said Koflanovich, "we have grown so much over this season and this was a great way to finish at home." All four of the Cougars' seniors are multi-year members of the program, as Bushman, Koflanovich and Monterroso spent four seasons at Azusa Pacific, while Graham spent her final two collegiate seasons with the Cougars.

Speaking of streaks, Azusa Pacific has either tied or defeated Biola each of the last four times in which the two sides have met. Biola's last victory against the Cougars was in 2011, a year prior to Azusa Pacific's move to NCAA Division II and the PacWest.
Â
While the Cougars are finished at home for the season, Azusa Pacific closes out the 2019 season with three PacWest road games. The Cougars will travel to Fresno Pacific (Nov. 9), Notre Dame de Namur (Nov. 14) and Dominican (Nov. 16).
