Azusa, Calif.-- After claiming its second straight PacWest Conference title on Wednesday night in five sets against Concordia, Azusa Pacific celebrated its three seniors in style with a 3-0 sweep against Fresno Pacific. Sara Wagenveld, Aliyah Morrison, and Julianne Miller became the second senior class in program history to walk off the court in their final home match as PacWest Conference champions.
The Cougars cruised to a 25-16, 25-7, 25-17 sweep over Fresno Pacific to close out the regular season with 10 consecutive victories. With the win, the Cougars finished PacWest play with fourteen conference sweeps.
All three seniors posted an outstanding performance for the Cougars. Following a stellar performance on Wednesday night against Concordia, senior Sara Wagenveld led the Cougars offensively with 15 kills, posting a .500 hitting percentage. Wagenveld was joined by seniors Aliyah Morrison and Julianne Miller, who each finished with 8 kills apiece. Defensively, Miller collected five digs and three blocks while Morrison tallied in two digs and two blocks.
How It Happened:
Azusa Pacific quickly captured the momentum in the first set, as the Cougars jumped out to an early 8-3 lead. A kill from Wagenveld (assisted by Maggie Nielson) helped extend the Cougars four-point lead into a twelve-point margin, 23-11. The Sunbirds were never able to recover as a kill from Miller secured the Cougars first set victory.
In the second frame, the Sunbirds opened up receiving the first point before Azusa Pacific rallied back with a 9-2 run. The Cougars never let up as they led as much as eighteen points to seal a 25-7 second set win.
Heading into the closing set, Azusa Pacific continued to dominate, as back-to-back kills from Wagenveld advanced the Cougars to an early 4-0 lead. Fresno Pacific responded with two straight points, but the Cougars rallied back on multiple occasions midway through the frame to extend the lead as much as eight points. With the Cougars holding a 23-15 lead, Wagenveld finished out the night with two straight kills to secure Azusa Pacific's nineteenth conference victory.

Azusa Pacific wraps up its second conference championship in program history with a 20-2 PacWest mark. The Cougars conclude the regular season with a 26-4 overall record and take an ten-match winning streak into next week's NCAA Division II Volleyball National Championship West Regional tournament.
