SAN RAFAEL, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific finished off the regular season on the road at Dominican on Saturday with a hard-fought match. Although the Cougars finished the match with more shots and possession, it was the Penguins that came out on top 1-0.
The Cougars outshot Dominican 6-2 in the first half, but were unable to find the back of the net. The Penguins, however, did bag a goal in the first half as Gabrielle Wampler scored in the 44
th minute. In the 45 minutes that followed, the match went back and forth with both teams having opportunities in possession and on goal. Azusa Pacific fired off another seven shots, but were unsuccessful in finding an equalizer.Â
"While it certainly was not the result we wanted, our girls fought until the end," said head coach
Brooke Lincoln, "there have been times this season when we have not played well, but their effort and fight did not waiver and for that I am proud of them."
Azusa Pacific finish 9-7-2 overall and 5-5-1 in conference play in the 2019 campaign. The Cougars had a +5 goal differential on the season and scored more than one goal in eight different matches. Azusa Pacific was led on offense by
Emmy Koflanovich and
Maddy Morrison, each scoring seven goals.
Randi Macadangdang was the assist leader with six along with her five goals.
Jennifer Kovisto finished the season with 50 saves and only 17 goals allowed in 14 matches played. Fellow keeper
Isabelle Decker played six matches, allowing eight goals and saving 21 shots.
