Honolulu, Hawai'i.-- In just three sets, Azusa Pacific snapped Chaminade's 12-game winning streak in PacWest play, as the Cougars claimed their ninth conference victory Friday evening on the road in Hawai'i. With the win, the Cougars up their record to 15-3 overall and 9-1 in conference play while Chaminade drops 18-3 on the season and 12-1 in the PacWest.
Both Sara Wagenveld and Julianne Miler led an efficient Azusa Pacific offense with 12 kills apiece. While the two Cougars tallied a combined total of nine blocks, Miller contributed six while Wagenveld added three. Miller showed strong play offensively after posting a .688 hitting percentage on the night.
Other Cougars that contributed to a strong offensive attack were Mina Andjelkovic and Maggie Nielsen, who each finished with 14 assists.
How It Happened:
Opening up in the first set, the two teams traded points early on before three kills from Miler helped the Cougars go on a 7-1 run and take a 12-9 lead. Azusa Pacific continued to show consistent strong play by extending its lead to a seven-point margin at 20-13, with a kill by Wagenveld. The Cougars never looked back as they cruised their way to a first set victory with a kill by Aliyah Morrison (assisted by Andjelkovic).
The Silverswords never made it easy for the Cougars as they rallied back in the second set with an early 7-2 lead. Azusa Pacific pushed its way through and took back the momentum down the stretch to tie the score 15-15. The two teams continued to battle point for point until Azusa Pacific closed out the set with a 6-1 run, capped off by a block from Miller and Morrison.
Heading into the final set, the Cougars claimed the first three points, topped off by another kill from Miller. The Silverswords retaliated with a 10-2 run to take its largest lead of the night with a five-point margin, 15-10. The two teams continued to rally late in the set before Azusa Pacific took control in the final stretch with a 7-2 run to extend its lead 24-22. Mirroring the first set, Morrison secured the match point with another kill to help claim the Cougars 25-22 conference victory.

The Cougars will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, October 25 for their second game in Hawai'i at Hawai'i Pacific for a 6:00 p.m. (HST) matchup. Azusa Pacific will followup with its final match on the islands Monday evening against Hawai'i Hilo at 4:00 p.m. (HST).
