Streak Continues Into New Year

Azusa Pacific runs its PacWest winning streak to 18 with 79-56 win over Concordia

AZUSA, Calif. -- The Azusa Pacific women's basketball team started the New Year by remaining perfect in PacWest Conference play with an impressive 79-56 victory over Concordia. The Cougars are now 11-3 overall and 8-0 in PacWest play, running its PacWest winning streak to 18 games with Saturday night's win.

Standouts: Laura Pranger led all scorers with a game high of 19 points, seven rebounds, and five blocks, while Daylee Hanson recorded 13 points, eight rebounds, and six steals. Also scoring 13 points was Savanna Hanson, while Rachel Bozlee added 12 points, all on three-pointers.

How It Happened: Savanna Hanson drained a three-pointer on the opening possession, securing the lead within 10 seconds of tipoff, and the Cougars never trailed as they quickly jumped out to a 17-point first quarter lead. A 57 percent (4-for-7) three-point shooting performance in the opening quarter helped the Cougars to a 42-23 halftime lead. The Cougars led by as many as 27 points late in the fourth quarter, with one of Bozlee's three-pointers extending the margin to 77-50 with 3:17 left in the game.

Quotable: "I was excited by our team's energy tonight coming off of Christmas break. We did a great job as a group tonight taking care of the ball. I believe we can still do a better job rebounding the ball, but I was proud of the way we never looked at the score and continued to execute well and play hard as a whole." -- Head coach T.J. Hardeman

By The Numbers: Azusa Pacific finished with a 22-6 edge in points off turnovers, registering 17 steals that helped lead to 22 Concordia turnovers in the game… The Cougars produced another double-digit margin in bench scoring, producing 23 points off the bench to Concordia's 13… Concordia edged Azusa Pacific in rebounding, 48-46, but the Cougars held a 14-7 margin in second chance points.

What's Next: The Cougars remain at home for another PacWest matchup, hosting Point Loma on Monday, Jan. 7, at 5:30 p.m.
