AZUSA, Calif. -- In a matchup of two undefeated teams in PacWest play, Azusa Pacific remained perfect in conference play with a three-set sweep over Point Loma. The Cougars won in convincing fashion, taking each set by a margin of 10 or more points (25-11, 25-15, 25-14).
The Cougars controlled the match from the outset, jumping out to an 8-1 lead in the first set. Point Loma cut the deficit to 9-5 before senior
Natalie Klapp had three straight kills to pull momentum back to the Cougars' side and ensure an early 1-0 lead in the match. Azusa Pacific tallied 15 kills in the first set, with only three attack errors. Junior
Aliyah Morrison led the Cougars with five kills in the first set, posting a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage on five attempts.
In the second set, the Cougars raced out to another quick advantage; however, Point Loma battled back to tie the score at 11-11. Following a kill by Morrison, freshman
Katarina Radisic recorded three straight service aces to give the Cougars a four-point advantage which it never relinquished. Radisic and Klapp had four kills each, and sophomore
Sara Wagenveld had three kills and a solo block in the second set.
In the third set, Azusa Pacific once again grabbed the momentum from the start and did not look back, taking the first three points. The Cougars controlled the set throughout, and finished the match on four straight points via kills from Wagenveld, two consecutive kills by Radisic, and the final kill by sophomore
Amy Hinnant. Morrison paced the Cougars with five kills in the set, and Klapp and Radisic added four kills as well.
On the match, the Cougars posted a team hitting percentage of .444, with 48 kills and only eight attack errors. The duo of senior

Chase Davis finished the match with 21 assists each, posting a set percentage of .523. Morrison and Klapp led the Cougars with 12 kills, while Radisic finished with 11 kills. Sophomore
Sophia Newhouse led Azusa Pacific with 12 digs, and Klapp and Radisic had 11 each. Junior
Julianne Miller posted a hitting percentage of .500 on the match, continuing a strong campaign in which she ranks in the top 10 nationally in hitting percentage.
With the victory, Azusa Pacific moves to 8-4 on the season, and 4-0 in PacWest play. The Cougars' long homestand continues, as they welcome Hawai'i Hilo (Sept. 17), Hawai'i Pacific, (Sept. 19) and Chaminade (Sept. 20) to the Felix Event Center in the upcoming week of PacWest competition. Azusa Pacific begins with its matchup against Hawai'i Hilo on Monday, September 17 at 6:00 p.m.
