IRVINE, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific volleyball completed a season sweep of Concordia with a four-set (25-22, 25-20, 25-27, 25-21) road victory Friday night.
The Cougars were led by junior
Sara Wagenveld, who had a team-high 12 kills, with a .476 hitting percentage on the match. Azusa Pacific had three other players with double-digit kills as well, as freshman
Katarina Radisic contributed 11 kills, and juniors
Aliyah Morrison and
Julianne Miller each had 10 kills on the match. Miller also posted four blocks, including two solo blocks. Morrison also made a significant defensive contribution, recording three blocks, including one solo block. Senior
Kaylen Higa had a team-high 27 assists, while freshman
Chase Davis tallied 23 assists of her own.
Azusa Pacific opened the match with a two-set lead, taking the first set by a 25-22 margin before claiming the second set, 25-20. Concordia was able to extend the match by taking the third set in a back and forth affair by a final score of 27-25. In the fourth set, neither team was able to take a commanding lead, as there were eight tie scores. With the scored tied at 19-19, the Cougars took the next three points. Radisic recorded a kill to make the score 20-19, followed by a kill from senior
Natalie Klapp and a service ace by Radisic. The three straight points seized the momentum for the Cougars, as they closed out the match on a kill from Wagenveld,
With the win, Azusa Pacific maintains first place in the PacWest, improving to 19-6 overall and 15-2 in the PacWest. Up next for the Cougars is a three-game road trip to the Hawaiian Islands, as they open with a match against Hawai'i Hilo (Oct. 31), followed by matches against Hawai'i Pacific (Nov. 2) and Chaminade (Nov. 3).
