HONOLULU – Despite a week off and five hours of travel, the Azusa Pacific volleyball continued its winning ways late on Friday evening.
The Cougars won their seventh straight match with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-22) victory against Hawai'i Pacific.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Azusa Pacific was in fine shape as they had comfortable leads in both the first and second sets before being challenged in the third frame. The Cougars posted a solid .333 team hitting percentage in taking the second set. Despite that success, they had to grind out a final set.
In that final stanza both teams had rough time finding their offense as they combined for 19 hitting errors (10 for Hawai'i Pacific, 9 for Azusa Pacific). The Cougars took the lead for good after a Hannah Pauling kill gave them a 15-14 edge as part of a 5-0 scoring run. The home team tied the score twice at 21-21 and, again, at 22-22 but could never take the lead. Azusa Pacific scored the last three points via an Aliyah Morrison kill, a Kaylen Higa service ace and completed with Julianne Miller and Amy Hinnant combining on a block.
