Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Stephen Hinkel

Dominating Performance

FRESNO, Calif. – With another strong effort from their offense, the Azusa Pacific volleyball squad posted a convincing 3-0 (25-14, 25-7, 25-17) win against Fresno Pacific.

With the win the Cougars up their record to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in PacWest play. It is the best 10-match start to a season since 2011 when the program won their first 13 contests.

HOW IT HAPPENED – The Azusa Pacific hitters nearly set their season high for hitting percentage just two days after posting the best mark of 2017. The Cougars tallied a .354 hitting percentage which was just .007 less than Thursday's effort against Point Loma.

During the second set the Cougars notched 13 kills on 19 attempts while committing just one error. Their .632 hitting percentage in the frame was the best single set mark this season. Furthermore, in that set, they were a perfect 8-for-8 in sideouts as they never allowed the Sunbirds to score back-to-back points.

MILLER ON POINTJulianne Miller had 12 kills on 15 attempts without committing a hitting error to post a .800 hitting percentage. In doing so, she became the first Azusa Pacific since 2006 to post a .800 hitting percentage on at least 10 attempts.

QUOTEABLE – "We put up some really impressive hitting numbers," head coach Chris Keife said. "Just as important though we are keeping our opponents hitting marks low."

A NOTE ON DEFENSEBailey Henington had a match high 14 digs while Sara Wagenveld (2 block solos, 3 block assists) and Madison Ogas (2 block solos, 1 block assist) were solid along the net. Miller and Aliyah Morrison each had three block assists.

2-0 – For the first time since the 2015 season the Cougars won their first two PacWest matches. That was also the last time an Azusa Pacific squad won three straight to begin conference play.

UP NEXT – The best non-Division I rivalry in California gets underway once again after a brief hiatus when Azusa Pacific hosts Biola at 6 p.m. on Friday evening.
