ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – As the fall semester schedule hits the midway mark, the Azusa Pacific swimmers took their annual trip to Orange County for the SOKA Invitational.
In addition to the Cougars, SOKA welcomed Concordia and Arizona Christian to the 16-event meet. Azusa Pacific won seven of the events.
THRICE FOR ROSALEE, ONCE FOR FAVREAU: Rosalee Mira Santa Ana put three more wins on her resume as her collegiate career comes to a close. The senior won the 200 butterfly as she nudged out teammate Emily Rigsby. Santa Ana touched the wall in 2:10.72 while Rigsby posted a time of 2:12.75.
Santa Ana tied Monet Favreau in the 100 freestyle as both of them hit the pad in 54.87 for the top spot. Santa Ana closed her day with a victory in the 500 freestyle (5:13.28).
WIET WINS TWO: Abigail Wiet competed in three events and took the top spot in two of them. The junior first win came in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.39.She also won the butterfly as she touched the wall in 1:00.13; just .10 second fasters than Concordia's Tatiana Padilla.
Wiet also competed in the 200 breaststroke where she placed second (2:30.05).
RIGSBY TOP FINISH: While Rigsby came-up shore in the 200 butterfly she wasn't denied in the 50 freestyle. In a crowded field of 32, the freshman hit the wall in 25.52.
RELAY EFFORT: The first event of the day saw the foursome of Wiet, Elodie Poo Cheong, Alyse Darnall and Rigsby win the 200 Medley Relay. The group set the pace from the first leg as they touched the wall in 1:52.66.
As the meet closed out the Cougars group of Santa Ana, Favreau, Tamara Miler and Angel Van Hofwegen post a time of 3:47.54 to finish second in the day's final event.
TEAM SCORES: Concordia scored 719.5 points while the Cougars came in with 360 points as SOKA (99.5) and Arizona Christian (21) rounded out the scoring.
