LA MIRADA, Calif. – The Cougars concluded their opening weekend at the Pacific Coast Swimming Conference (PCSC) pentathlon.
The different events broke up into a three different groupings. Azusa Pacific performed well in all disciplines as they continue to work themselves into midseason form.
In the three different groupings of events, a winner for that respective grouping is declared based on their total time for those five events.
GROUP ONE (50 Butterfly, 50 Backstroke, 50 Breaststroke, 100 IM, 50 Freestyle)
Elodie Poo Cheong posted the lowest combined time in those five event. She totaled 2:50.06 which was nearly a second-and-half faster than second-place Daria Belova from Fresno Pacific.
Alyse Darnall finished 10th with a combined time of 2:58.29 among the 44 competitors in the group.
RECORD BREAKER: Elodie Poo Cheong set the school record in the 100 IM as she touched the wall in 59.96. The previous record was set last year by Rachel Wasko (1:00.24) in the same meet.
GROUP TWO (100 Butterfly, 100 Backstroke, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 IM)
Tamara Miler had the best finish (14th) among the Cougar swimmers as her times finished at 6:39.96. Emily Longfellow from California Baptist won the group with a total effort of 6:07.63
GROUP THREE (50 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle, 500 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 25 Freestyle)
Rosalee Mira Santa Ana completed the freestyle group in 8:35.74 which was good enough for third place as Fresno Pacific's Laura Fornshell (8:23.21) posted the top time.
Posting a top 10 finish was freshman Emily Rigsby. In her opening collegiate weekend she went 8:48.62 in the five freestyle disciplines.
DIVING UPDATE: After finishing second during Friday's events, freshman McKenna Webster won the one- and three-meter diving competitions.
