Cougars Claim Second Straight Sweep

SEATTLE, Wash. – After two matches at the GNAC/PacWest Challenge, the Azusa Pacific volleyball team is sitting in the cat's bird seat.

The Cougars have yet to drop a set, or even let their opponent get to 20 points in a set, after dropping Montana State Billings in straight set on Friday morning. The set scores on Friday morning were 25-17, 25-15, 25-15. Azusa Pacific took the lead for good just before the midway point in each set in cruising to the victory.

On Saturday Azusa Pacific complete their four matches at host Seattle Pacific. The Cougars start the day with a 9:30 a.m. match against Alaska Fairbanks before finishing up with Simon Fraser at 5 p.m.

"I like the way we are playing right now. We are making progress as an offense," said Azusa Pacific head coach Chris Keife. "I know we can still reach another level and I'm looking forward to that happening before our trip is done."

Against the Yellowjackets today senior Mattie Shelford had 12 kills on 20 attempts. In addition to her match high kill effort, she recorded a .550 hitting percentage. Ally Gonzalez followed-up her solid match on Thursday against Seattle Pacific with a nine-kill performance this morning. She also added two block solos to her boxscore tally.

Along the backline Ashley Swatek dug up 17 attempts. She is now just 33 digs away from tying Allison Kinsheloe for seventh on Azusa Pacific's all-time career leaders list.

Jaden Louie and Jewels Tavera directed the Cougars offense once again as the handed out 15 and 13 assists respectively. Freshman Danika Young saw playing time in two sets where she contributed five assists.
