Unbeaten Bears Stay Perfect Against Cougars

MEET RESULTS

WACO, Texas -- Baylor kept its perfect season intact, posting its second win over Azusa Pacific this season by pulling away for near-perfect performances in the final two events of a 13-point win (285.675 to 272.425) Saturday night at the Ferrell Center.

Since the teams' first meeting earlier this month, Baylor has beaten four-time defending NCATA national champion Oregon on the road and now returned home to score season-best totals in the team event and for overall score against Azusa Pacific, which was last year's national runner-up.

Baylor won five of the six events and tied the Cougars in the toss event before moving on to post an edge of 4.2 points across six tumbling heats and a 7.1-point advantage in the team event. The first half resulted in a Baylor lead of less than two full points.

Both teams scored perfect 10s in the twisting pyramid, and all three of Azusa Pacific's pyramid heats resulted in scores of 9.80 or higher. However, the Cougars' highest score in any non-pyramid heat was 9.65, which came in compulsory toss and on freshman Sarah DiSpaltro's aerial tumbling pass.

Azusa Pacific's perfect 10 in the twisting pyramid was its second perfect score in that particular heat this year, and it was the Cougars' fourth perfect 10 overall this season, with all four occurring in various heats of the pyramid.

The defeat wraps up Azusa Pacific's regular season with a 2-4 overall record. All four defeats have come against either Oregon or Baylor, which have been ranked first and second in every set of this year's NCATA national rankings. The Cougars are off until the NCATA National Championships next month, which will be hosted by Fairmont State in Fairmont, W.Va.
