Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Stephen Hinkel

Rimmed Out in Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The ball rattled around the rim, against backboard but rarely fell through the net.

Azusa Pacific connected on a season low 28.1 percent of their shots as California Baptist put together a 68-48 victory.

The Cougars four-game winning streak came to an end as they scored a season low point total. The Lancers extended their winning ways to six straight. Azusa Pacific has lost their last five games at California Baptist.

Azusa Pacific's scoring was led by Miriam Zabinsky's 12-point evening. Maggie Dumphy was the only other Cougars (14-8, 10-5 PacWest) in double figures with 10. Kelly Hardeman came into the game as the team's leading scoring, avenging just under 20 points per game, was held to a season low nine points.

California Baptist (19-3, 12-2) jumped out early to the lead and never looks back. They held at least a two possessions lead for a majority of the opening 10 minutes. Eventually they stretched that lead to a first half best 11 points at 21-10 with just over seven minutes left in the frame. Azusa Pacific trimmed their deficit down to 25-21 after a Miriam Zabinsky three-pointer with 2:33 left until halftime. However, that was the closest Azusa Pacific would get the rest of the evening.

The Lancers all but put the game away with a 19-4 scoring spurt midway through the second half. Already leading 35-26 with 15:28 remaining, the home team stretched that lead to 54-30 with just over nine minutes left in the game.

Courtney Nelson scored a game high 20 points on the strength of a 9-for-14 shooting effort.

Azusa Pacific will look to react revenge on the Lancers in two weeks when California Baptist visits the Felix Event Center on Feb. 21.
