Box Score HILO, Hawaii - It only took one goal. And Azusa Pacific scored it as they posted a PacWest Conference win over Hawaii Hilo on Monday
The game's only goal came in the 73rd minute when Keyran Kelly scored his first goal of the season off a feed from Luke Ackermann.
"It was a challenge all night. Hilo is a tough team to break down but our goal was fantastic. Billy started the play and played a great ball to Luke," head coach Dave Blomquist said. "Inside the six-yard box Luke played the ball to Keyran who put a great half-volley shot past the keeper.
It was the second of four games for Azusa Pacific on the Island state. Next on the slate for the Cougars is a 10 a.m. (HST) Thursday contest with Chaminade.
Hawaii Hilo put six shots on frame but the goal keeping combo Tyler Jaramillo and Austin Call was up to challenge as they blocked aside every attempt. The Cougars put five shots on goal with junior Carlos Garcia Partida sending a team high two at the net.
A physical game saw the Vulcans commit 18 fouls compared to just nine by Azusa Pacific.
GAME NOTES
It was just the second meeting all-time between the two schools … Azusa Pacific has posted two shutouts in those games … The Cougars won 3-0 in 2013.
