Box Score HONOLULU, Hawaii - Despite holding an advantage in key offensive categories, the Azusa Pacific women's soccer squad couldn't come away with a win.
Hawaii Pacific took advantage of their opportunities as they posted a 3-1 win over the Cougars on Saturday afternoon.
Azusa Pacific held a 15-8 edge in overall shots and produced a plus-four margin (7-3) in corner kicks.
The Sharks (5-2, 2-1 PacWest) broke through on the scoreboard first in the 34th minute. Each team had opportunities to find the first goal before Breanna Gaddis broke the drought with an unassisted goal after securing the ball during a scramble in the box.
Azusa Pacific had two corner kicks late in the half and Mayra Almazan fired a shot with just over two minutes left until halftime but they couldn't tie the score before the break.Â
Each team came out after intermission with opportunities. Azusa Pacific (2-6, 0-2) had two corner kicks and a shot on goal while the Sharks placed two shots on frame but the score remained 1-0.Â
The home team eventually added to their lead when Sierra Kadooka scored her first goal in the season in the 58th minute. Kadooka played a long ball into the box that bounced over Cougar goalie Sarah Klinkenberg and into the back of the net.Â
Eleven minutes later the Sharks gave themselves a three-goal cushion. Lexi Cameau found the back of the net from a pass inside the box from Erika Ellis in the 69th minute.
Almazan provided the Cougars goal in the 73rd minute when she finished off a misplayed clear by the Sharks defense.Â
During the final 17 minutes the Cougars put three more shots on goal but couldn't draw closer. Â
It is the first win in four attempts for Hawaii Pacific against the Cougars.
