Shutout Streak Continues in 3-0 Win

Box Score AZUSA, Calif. – With strong efforts on both sides of the field, Azusa Pacific won their third straight game with a 3-0 victory over Holy Names on Thursday.

It is the fourth straight shutout for the Cougars. Azusa Pacific hasn't allowed a goal in 12 days.

"Tonight's win is a step in the process of continually getting better. We created a lot of chances but we just didn't finish them like we'd like too but overall we moved forward tonight," said head coach Jason Surrell. "A staple for APU women's soccer is our defense and while this wasn't the line-up we necessarily expected at the start of the year, it is getting the job done."

In the eighth minute the Cougars opened the scoring when Mallory Walton headed a Mayra Almazan corner kick into the back of the net. It was Walton's first goal of 2014. The home team put a two-goal cushion on the scoreboard in the 20th minute. Amanda Hardy scored from in-close off a pass from Almazan.  Azusa Pacific continued to pressure the rest of the stanza but couldn't capitalize as they went into halftime with a 2-0 edge.

The Cougars nearly added to their lead in the early minutes of the second half. Off a Hardy corner kick Hayley Patterson headed up a ball on frame but a Holy Names defender was in the right place at the right time to keep the score at 2-0.

Haley Wiliamson scored her second goal of the season with just over seven minutes left in the game. Williamson controlled a loose ball in the box off an entry from Shannon Hardy as she beat the Holy Names goalkeeper.

Zoe Bauman continued her strong play in front of the net. The freshman made three saves to extend her shutout streak to 399:51. She has yet to allow a goal during her collegiate career.

Azusa Pacific dominated the stat sheet as they outshot Holy Names 26-3, including an 11-3 edge in shots on goal, while posting a commanding 12-1 advantage in corner kicks.
