SAN RAFAEL, Calif.-- The Azusa Pacific women's soccer team has made a living of out of shutting down its opponents' offense, and on Saturday the Cougars took it to a new level.  Azusa Pacific held Dominican without a shot to record its seventh consecutive shutout dating back to Sept. 21 in a 1-0 win over the Penguins.

The Cougars, who have given up just one goal in nine Pacific West Conference matches, improved to 10-1-1 (8-0-1), getting the game winning goal from Mayra Almazan in the 55th and extending their streak of shutout minutes to 695.

"We played really well today. We probably had 70-80 percent of the possession, and created some good chances with it," said head coach Jason Surrell, who's guided the Cougars to three consecutive road wins. "We're just trying to survive on the road. We still have one more tough match away from home at Fresno Pacific before we get a home game.  I certainly feel good about where we're at and how we've played."

Azusa Pacific outshot the Penguins 9-0, and generated six shots on goal in the match. The Cougars' got the day's lone score on a free kick in the 55th minute. On the play Alamzan bent a ball over the wall and into the upper corner for her sixth goal of the season.

After the Cougars took the lead, the team's defense took over, tabbing the team's eighth shutout of the year. Katleyn Rogers tallied two shots on goal, while Logan Chan and Alyx Williams each placed one shot on target. 

The Cougars own the PacWest's top record (8-0-1), and with 25 points trail only California Baptist. Azusa Pacific and the Lancers will square off next Saturday at the Cougar Soccer Complex in a match that will likely determine the conference champion.
