Azusa Pacific Beats The Cougars

AZUSA, Calif.- In a battle for Cougar pride, The 12th ranked squad from Azusa Pacific shutout Cal State San Marcos 2-0 thanks to goals from Oktay Bulut and Carlos Garcia-Partida.

Azusa Pacific out-shot San Marcos 13-8, and won the possession throughout the match.

"I think we controlled the tempo of the game a little better," said Head Coach David Blomquist. "We had a good rate of possession [and] that helped us in the overall scheme."

Garcia-Partida opened the match with a score on the 31 minute mark. The freshman forward placed it by the keeper from five yards out to record his second goal of the season.

Azusa Pacific led 1-0 at the break as the defense, led by Lucas Young and Robert James, held San Marcos to just two shots, one on goal.

Bulut gave Azusa Pacific a cushion, shooting it in from 23 yards out in the 59th minute.

The two scores were enough for junior keeper Joe Geletko, as he posted his first shutout of the season.

Azusa Pacific improves to 2-1 on the season, and faces Rocky Mountain College (Mont.) for the team's second match of the Heritage Club Classic in Santa Barbara.
