Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Masterlocked

SANTA CLARITA, Calif.-- After losing for the first time since the opener the Azusa Pacific men's soccer team posted its first tie of 2011, finishing with a 1-1 double-overtime deadlock with The Master's on Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars (7-2-1; 1-1-1) got on the board first when Nathan Nienhuis found the back of the net off a pass from Oktay Bulut in the 30th minute. Nienhuis had three shots in the match, including both of Azusa Pacific's shots on goal. The Master's knotted it at 1-1 in the 56th minute with an unassisted score from Jorge Serrano.

From there on out neither team could get the go ahead score, forcing overtime.

In the first extra period the Mustangs out-shot the Cougars 4-0, one of which was on target. However, Joe Geletko kept the match alive with his sixth save of the night. The second overtime period saw Azusa Pacific out-shoot The Master's 2-1, but none of the attempts in the final 10 minutes were on goal.

"I thought we came out well and created a lot of opportunities in the first half. The Master's adjusted well in the second half." said Head Coach Dave Blomquist. "As the game wore on it was difficult for both teams. I was pleased with the effort.  I thought on the whole it was a good performance. The guys did a lot of really nice things, but there were moments where we could have been better."

The Cougars will face Westmont at home on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
