SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Unranked Westmont used a 13-2 run over the final 5 minutes of the game, to rally for a 65-57 Golden State Athletic Conference victory over the NAIA's No. 14-ranked Azusa Pacific Tuesday night in Santa Barbara.

For the second straight conference game, the Cougars could not enjoy its good fortune and allowed victory to slip through its hands in the clutch moments of the game. The Cougars trailed throughout most of the game but rallied back into the lead, using a 16-6 run to assume a 55-52 advantage following a Meliame Hala'ufia putback with 5 minutes to play. It would be the last time Azusa Pacific would lead.

Westmont answered with an Amber Stevens' trey to spark the game-ending 13-2 run. Abby Johnson' short jumper in the key tied the game at 57-57 with 3:57 to play, but it was the last field goal for the Cougars on the night. Azusa Pacific missed its final 3 shots and committed 4 of its 20 turnovers in the final 4 minutes.

Ali Mooty led Westmont with 18 points, while Monica Somers led Azusa Pacific with a game-high 20 points, including 11 in the second half. Johnson added 13 points to go along with her game-high 10 rebounds.

With the loss, the Cougars fall to 2-3 overall, 0-2 in the GSAC, while Westmont improves to 6-1 overall, 2-0 in the GSAC.
